We just returned from Oaxaca - center of all things mezcal, where the air is thick with the scent of roasted agave, cacao blossom and warm clay. A place where tradition runs as deep as the earth. This pilgrimage to the source of our Eau de Mezcal inspiration was pure olfactive bliss.
We walked the fields at sunrise, watched master mezcaleros slow-roast agave hearts in earthen pits, and soaked in the rich aromas of fire, soil, and smoke. The experience reaffirmed our passion for bottling the spirit of Mezcal into every drop of Eau de Mezcal.
Oaxaca is a purely multi-sensorial, multi-layered experience. We first journeyed to the fields in 2017 for the development of our fragrance collection. Inspired by the faceted aromas of agave spirits - not just smoke - the mezcal we drank and people we met inspired our collection. Since then, we've donated a notable portion of sales from the product to Programa Vaca, a Mexico-based organization that works with rural communities to build with natural, sustainable materials.
The area is undergoing an influx of tourism and although exciting for growth, this can also lead to an unstable environment for locals, amongst other environmental and economic challenges. The story of mezcal is deep with nuance and our passion is to work to educate about the traditions, communities, and challenges of agave sprits behind the scenes, via our fragrances.
A few of our favorite postcards are below. Spritz on some Eau de Mezcal, and meet us in the agave field...
